At Marina Bay, mega malls, small local set-ups, designer boutiques and everything in between – are all seamlessly linked, making it a truly one-stop shopping experience.

Starting from Raffles City Shopping Centre, take a stroll to CityLink Mall (an extensive network of shops underground) and wander on to Marina Square, Suntec City Mall and Millenia Walk. Marina Square and Suntec City Mall are mega malls with lifestyle shops stocked with fashion, electronics and household ideas.

Suntec City Convention Centre and Raffles City Convention Centre are popular with the business travellers for shopping and dining.

For more high-end shopping, choose from specialty stores in Millenia Walk or visit the Raffles Hotel Arcade where you will find exquisitely tailored shirts, personalised perfume and handmade chocolates.

3. Bugis
BUGIS JUNCTION

Wander among the hundreds of stalls at Bugis Street that are vying for your attention. From CDs to clothes and accessories to quick bites, you will be spoilt for choice.

For the young and trendy in search of a good bargain, browse through the air-conditioned stretch of stalls on the second floor.

Across the road at Bugis Junction, small carts line an indoor street mall with great accessory finds. Here is where you can enjoy shopping indoors with natural daylight in air-conditioned comfort.

4. Chinatown

Stroll along the streets steeped in Chinese culture and charm. With its inimitable mix of shops selling everything from exquisite silk cheongsams (traditional fitted Chinese dress) to herbal preparations by the trusty sinseh (medicine man), the main streets branch out to side streets of pushcarts that offer a myriad of products.

At one end, discover Chinatown Point, for clothes at bargain prices and Oriental houseware. At the other end (Smith Street), you will be treated to an entire street of delicious hawker fare. For those into gold jewellery, stop by one of the many Chinese jewellery shops along South Bridge Road.

5. Little India

Bring home a slice of Indian culture. Jasmine flowers scent the air here, where stalls selling floral garlands line the streets. Saris, Bollywood movie stars’ posters, Bhangra music, trinkets and gold jewellery lend colour to this famous street.

From stalls displaying fresh fruits and Indian sweets to shops selling clothes and shoes at irresistible bargains, you will be dizzy from the choices available. A must-stop is Mustafa Centre – four floors of every merchandise imaginable stacked from floor to ceiling.

6. Kampong Glam

Age-old trades which sustained the early immigrants are still in business at this cultural hub for early Arabs in Singapore. A leisurely paced walk will bring you face to face with small shops selling carpets, textiles, crafts and rattan baskets.

As a reflection of its eclectic mix, this area is also home to designer wear store, White Room and Straits Records, which sells second-hand records and CDs by local bands. Check out the newly-developed Bussorah Mall where colourful skirts, scarves and houseware beckon from the shophouse windows.

  1. Huh! It reminded me a joke i’ve heard yesterday. As the moral is closely the same! =) A man in his forties got a new Porsche and had been out on the interstate just for a wonderful evening drive. The roof was off, a breeze was swaying through what was left of his curly hair and man decided to open her up. As the hook jumped around 80 mph, he suddenly saw flashing red and blue lighting behind him. “There’s no way they could catch that auto!,” he thought to himself and opened her up even more. The needle come to 90, 100…. Then the reality of the situation hit him. “What a hell am I doing?” he said and pulled over. The cop arrived up to him, required his licence without a word and examined it and the car. “It is been a long evening, this is the end of my shift and it’s Friday the 13th. I don’t really feel like much more paperwork, therefore if you’ll be able to give me a good reason for your driving a car which I have not heard before, it is possible to go.” The man thinks about for a moment and claims, “Last week my wife went away with a cop. I was scared you was trying to give her back.” “Have a nice weekend,” says the policeman.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
