Marie Digby

The first time I heard of her songs were on TV when they were advertising new album that was out on store. I loved the voice and what attracted me, was her rendition on Umbrella. Yes, the Umbrella sung by Rihanna. Of course, it’s great with her rendition. Apparently, her lack of publicity led her to upload her renditions on youtube and wham!! The buzz was created. Don’t forget to check out her other great performances on What I’ve Done (Linkin Park) and Gimme More (Britney Spears). Her single, Say It Again is definitely a dope. She’s got good looks and what else to add besides good voice?

Check her studio album which is now out on store…..

Taxidermia

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

TaxidermiaWarning: May contain spoiler.

So what is this movie about when the title seems to suggest the life of a taxidermist? Frankly, call me obtuse if you want but the word taxidermist was never in my own dictionary. I have heard and seen the work of mounting animals for display. All I knew was just stuffing and mounting. What a frog I am!

Not too late :) Learning is just wonderful. I chanced upon this movie when I checked out the picturehouse. To feed my curiosity, I search for its trailer and was captivated by the scene that depicts a simple bathtub that was used for different occasions in the first story. I love how it was done, simple yet blossoming with meanings about life. My takeaway from this scene? Life is just life, someone’s life, cheap, worthless to mention coz it’s just life, life when we are all breathing and moving, be it human or animal, it’s just life, death is just the next phase. How scary huh?

I finally caught this last night after a long wait since its first opening on the 24th April. I had that ‘enough of waiting’ mood and I almost gave up on this. The show started on time, I couldn’t help but to be annoyed with so many late-comers and that really spoiled the first few minutes of the show. Late-comers did not just walk in and find their seats, but to stand in the middle aisle to catch every take of the movie. Well of course, that’s when the man masturbated, the girls were bathing in the tub, the peep, the negligence to house servant, the perversion out of care deprivation, and how he was shot in head for sleeping with the mistress. First story created laughters, disgusts, awe and sort of disbelief of what human can do in such deprivation.

The birth of a child with a pig’s tail marked the second part of the story. The boy was trained to compete in sports, speed eating contests. The love for someone, the politics, the self-esteem booster, the power one have in such contest, totally revolting with vomit scenes throughout this part of the story.

A surprising size of the child from the two renowned speed eaters couple flipped all pages to the last part of the movie. Small as he is, thin and despised by the obese father, he carried out his duty as a son and a taxidermist dutifully. He’s quiet, his stare is empty, his devotion in his work is meticulously perfect, but all come to an end after the death of his father. He turned all his attention in stuffing the body of his father and then created his own torso by taking out his internal organs, and finally cut off his own head and arm as the last piece of his work.

I did not go home with a heavy heart, cry nor laugh. I was in a daze! In a daze….

Razzie Awards 2008 Nominations

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

It’s time for Razzie Awards 2008 Nominations!

Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy scored multiple nominations Monday for the Razzies, which sort out the worst that Hollywood dredged up the previous year.

Lohan’s thriller, “I Know Who Killed Me,” in which she plays two characters, received a leading nine (woo-hoo!) Razzie nominations, among them worst film of 2007.

Murphy’s “Norbit,” released amid a film-honors season that earned Murphy an Academy Awards nomination for “Dreamgirls” last year, received eight Razzie nominations, five of them for Murphy alone, more than anyone has ever gotten in a single year. (Congrats, Eddie!)

Besides worst picture, “Norbit” had nominations for Murphy as worst actor in the title role, supporting actress as Norbit’s beefy wife, supporting actor as an Asian man and worst screen couple for Norbit opposite either of Murphy’s other characters. Murphy also shared a screenplay nomination for co-writing “Norbit.”

“We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations,” said Razzies founder John Wilson. Well, not only the characters in the film, but also his real life character for being such a nasty heartbreaker.

According to Wilson, Murphy’s closest competition for worst screen couple is Lohan in “I Know Who Killed Me,” in which she plays a small-town girl abducted by a psychopath and an alter-ego, a stripper who’s missing body parts.

Lohan’s movie played like a cross between the torture tale “Hostel” and “The Patty Duke Show,” Wilson said.

For worst actress, Lohan polled more heavily than any actor since Sofia Coppola in “The Godfather Part III,” Wilson said.

“‘I Know Who Killed Me’ is the most fabulously brainless movie since ‘Showgirls,’” which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s, Wilson said. “By the end of it, you still don’t know what happened. Are they twins or aren’t they? Did she imagine it? Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?” Haha, good point!

The other worst-picture nominees were “Bratz,” a live-action take on the cartoon about four chic young girls; “Daddy Day Camp,” with Cuba Gooding Jr. starring in a sequel to Murphy’s “Daddy Day Care”; and “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry,” Adam Sandler and Kevin James’ comedy about firefighters posing as a gay couple.

Sandler and Gooding joined Murphy in the worst-actor category, along with Nicolas Cage for “Ghost Rider” and Jim Carrey for “The Number 23.”

Lohan was cited twice as worst actress for “I Know Who Killed Me,” while the four “Bratz” stars - Logan Browning, Janel Parrish, Nathalia Ramos and Skyler Shaye - shared a nomination. Also nominated were Jessica Alba for three films, “Awake,”"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and “Good Luck Chuck”; Elisha Cuthbert for “Captivity”; and Diane Keaton for “Because I Said So.”

Along with Murphy, supporting actor included Orlando Bloom for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” James and Rob Schneider for “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” and Jon Voight for “Bratz,”"National Treasure: Book of Secrets,”"September Dawn” and “Transformers.”

Besides Murphy, supporting actress nominees were Jessica Biel for “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” and “Next,” Carmen Electra for “Epic Movie,” Julia Ormond for “I Know Who Killed Me” and Nicollette Sheridan for “Code Name: The Cleaner.”

A spoof of Hollywood awards, the Razzies made their announcement the day before the Oscar nominations come out. Razzie “winners” will be announced Feb. 23, a day before the Oscars.

6 year old Heather Martin sings a song that her mother wrote for her Brother Shaun who is serving in Iraq. The song is written from Heather’s point of view.

Lyrics

You were almost sixteen when I came into the world.
Mom and Dad had you first then 3 more boys I’m the baby girl.
I sure have a lot to look up to in you, you’re really smart and funny with a big heart too.
After one year of college you knew what you had to do.
It’s just like you wanting to help with the war.
So you joined the army when I was only 4.
This time of year we talk of big plans but you’re over seas in some distant land.
You can’t be here for Christmas, I don’t understand.
Chorus:
When are you coming home, Shaun?
When are you coming home?!
We lit up the house like we always do but it doesn’t seem bright ’cause we can’t have you.
In my prayers I ask God to keep you safe.
And I’m trying to be really brave.
Tell me that the fighting’s through.
Come home!
I really miss you.

It’s hard to enjoy the holidays without you.
But we’re so proud of you and all the red white and blue.
Remember that Jesus is your best friend,
And someday our families will be together again.
Wow! You know we’ll have a great big party then.

Chorus

I want to show you how tall I’ve grown and introduce you to my new friends at school.
Maybe we could go and get some ice cream together but I really don’t care what we do.

Chorus

eragon

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

director: stefen fangmeier
casts: jeremy irons(brom), edward speleers(eragon), sienna guillory(arya), john malkovich(king galbatorix), djimon hounsou(ajihad)
genre: fiction, science fiction
runtime: 104 minutes
link: http://www.eragonmovie.com/

kylie’s sypnosis:
this movie is based on a fantasy novel written by christopher paolini, set in a homeland named alagaesia where it was once ruled by dragon riders. one of the dragon riders who hungers for power overwhelms with greed has started a war where he and his man kill all the dragon riders. he, king galbatorix, then rules alagaesia with cruelty and instils fear in the people in order to prevent disloyalty. any disloyalty will be punished by death. as a result, a group of protestors, vardens to flee to the mountains in waiting for the predestined dragon rider to arrive and lead them for a war against the evil king baltorix and his assistant, a sorcerer named durka.

eragon, a young farm boy finds an object, rescued by arya from the hands of evil king galbatorix, which he believes to be a stone in the woods. out of curiosity, he keeps the ’stone’ until one fine day when the ’stone’, which is actually a dragon egg hatches. saphira is the name of the dragon. she only hatches when she has found her dragon rider, eragon.

eragon is being led by a former dragon rider, brom to meet vardens as eragon is the only hope for the rise of dragon riders. along the way, brom teaches eragon on handling and using the power of saphira. a tough journey is ahead of them as durka aims to stop them from joining forces with vardens.

kylie’s review:
after watching the trailer, i think that this movie has the same concept as LOTR trilogy. in fact after watching the movie in cinema, i realise that there are some differences. dont compare eragon with LOTR trilogy as yet as it wont be a fair comparison, will it?remember how dreadful it is to watch LOTR: the fellowship of the ring because much of the info is squeezed into that movie?

for many viewers, eragon may be a big disappointment, but for me, it’s ok. i’m actually looking forward to a sequel if there’s any( i believe there is as the ending indicates so *winks*). eragon is kind of different from LOTR as it doesnt have as much war and love scenes as the later.

this movie portrays the value of trust and friendship. the level of trust eragon places on murtagh, son of a betrayer named morzan and brom in leading his way to the vardens. friendships which bonds eragon, saphira and arya. the alliances with vardens to defeat durka and the king’s army.

this movie is worth watching if you are curious bout dragons and human being a team. remember not to read the novel before you watch the movie to minimise the disappointment. as predicted, the book is more detailed. just give the movie the benefit of the doubt….

Your feel good songs.

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Hi everyone, this is my first post and since everyone’s pretty much done the fashion thing already, I feel as though I should start with something I’m totally into.

Here are tracks that girls should consider as their personal anthem. Ditch the songs that make you bawl your eyes out, over the guys that broke your heart. It’s time for a lil self-esteem boost, girls! Throw those “Stick with you”, “Promise”, “Everytime we touch” tracks out the window, cos we don’t need men. Here’s a few feel good tracks I totally recommend, and nope, no lovey dovies! =3 Hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did writing it! ^^

1) Girl next door - Saving Jane
So, we don’t have to be the prom queen or the most popular girl. Let’s just embrace who we are and love ourselves for us!

2) Long way to go - Cassie
Confidence all the way. Show the guys that you don’t need them, and you’re not just any girl they can have. Cos you’re special. ;)

3) I’m not missing you - Stacie Orrico
Uh-huh. Just like the title says, you’re not missing the guy who betrayed you, the guy who didn’t appreciate you. Get on with life, cos he’s not worth all the tears and heartbreak. You go, girl!

4) Bossy - Kelis
Yeah, you show them that. You’re bossy, so let the world know things are going your way, and no other way. Guys love girls with confidence and a lil something something, but that don’t mean you gotta love them back. ;p

5) Danity Kane - Showstopper
Cos girls are all you need, girlfriend! They’re there to back you up, guys walk in and out of your life but your girls have been there for you before he came, and they’re still there after he left.

6) I belong to me - Jessica Simpson
This lady’s stepping out on her own. Stronger than ever. Kudos to her, and to the girls that has their hearts broken, take it from her. The world’s not over yet, so pull yourself together, and sing with her!

7) Love Me Or Hate Me - Lady Sovereign
I’m loving the lyrics on this one. Let people know, you love yourself for who you are and you don’t give a flying toot whether they dig or don’t.

8) Fergilicious - Fergie
How can this girl not make you wanna get up and dance? If you’re sayin’ she doesn’t have that magical touch that makes you feel good, then girl, you’re lying to yourself. She is the duchess, go grab a copy of her album if you haven’t already.

9) My humps - B.E.P
The classics of girl power. Show the men what they can’t have, girrrl! And make them beg.

10) I don’t need a man - PCD
No collection is complete without a PCD track. Let’s rock it like how these hot chicks do. It’s a perfect number to groove to, and the lyrics? Perfect. ;)

So what are you girls waiting, get them now! ^^
