Merry Christmas

posted by:

It’s the time of the year again where everyone bond with everyone, forgive and forget, to enjoy the happy moments together as one. That’s right, it’s Christmas. Staying home for Christmas Eve is the last thing one wanna do. The bells of the jinggles can be heard of, the laughter of people are all around the air. It’s all the joy that people have. Let’s all live in peace and harmony, no war in the name of Christmas. Share the joy, share the happiness, share the laughter and Christmas is all about sharing.
I wanna take this very opportunity to wish everyone a very blessed and merry christmas. Hope what you got from Santa is what you have wished for hehe.

Masculine Dressing For Women: The New Trend?

posted by:

Women are succeeding in the corporate world almost as much as men, and we ladies, definitely do give a men a run for their money. No more MCP nonsense that the wife has to wait at home for hubby, and that hubby is the sole breadwinner of the family.

I have since noticed as well that the trend of empowering ladies are slowly tapping into our fashion sense. We now wear feminine versions of clothes that men used to wear. Some have been existent for a long time, yes, but are now making drastic comeback and appearances in our everyday clothes.

Firstly, the vest:

Even Kate Moss did a vest for her collection for Topshop:

Interesting to see corporate ladies dress up their office wear with the addition of the vest as well.

Then I see the emergence of a feminine-nized version of the bow tie. It usually is just a ribbon around the collar of the shirt, ultra chic when paired with a blazer or coat.

And the latest trend for now, we have the cufflinks:

There’s even a shop in One U now that specializes in cufflinks for both men and women. Plenty of choices, and also a good selection of French cuff shirts.

So ladies, go ahead and ransack your men’s wardrobe and incorporate their items into your dressing, a huge white shirt can be belted into a shirt dress as well.

Pair it with leggings or boots, and you’re set to rock!

Cheers, Lynn

‘Tis The Season To Be Jolly…Broke…And Have Fun!

Christmas is here once again, and everybody is also happy because it’s the end of the year. A time to reflect on the year that will soon go by, and a time to make resolutions for the next year.

While some may gloat about their achievements, some may regret the opportunities that they have missed and there are some whom are unsure about what they want to achieve.

December is always a nostalgic month, and the moment we see the existence of our year end bonuses in our bank accounts, it is almost as good as gone in the blink of the eye.

Christmas presents, company dinners, parties to attend, holidays, travels, what else I cannot think of anymore as the more that I type the more I get scared.

I myself have not done my Christmas shopping yet, and I think I will usually go run out at the last minute to buy some wine and tie a ribbon around it and wa-la! My Christmas present for the occasion. This year The Body Shop offers some really nice looking (and affordable) gift packs. So I think they will receive a huge share of my bonus as I run in to get my girlfriends gifts.

I personally feel that most of the fun during festive seasons as such would be the parties and events that we have to attend. Are you often the life of the party or do you usually sit around and chat with a few friends that you know? Go mingle around! If you are the latter, it’s better to know more people at the end of the day.

Just remember, girls, to always walk and stand straight. It creates a much more confident silhouette and your holiday muffin tummy doesn’t show as much ;)

The easiest way to get someone talking is about themselves. Everybody loves to talk about themselves, and as often it may be a bore, you might be surprised at the end of the day of what you discover about the other party. Ask them questions about how do they know the host, what do they do, or complement someone on their dressing, accessories, hairdo etc. Take it easy and add some humor if you want to, but don’t be pushy. Nothing is more a turn-off than someone that tries too hard, so you really don’t want yourself to be known as that.

If you’re the hostess or you know the hosts and they’re too busy, offer a hand to help them out with their friends or with the work around the house. If you need to help people break the ice cos everyone is sitting down doing nothing, then introduce people you know to each other if they haven’t known each other yet. Introduce others with a simple or thoughtful remarks, or if they have something in common, all the better. For instance,

“Jill, meet Jane. Jane is in the events industry and she goes to California Fitness every Tuesday and Friday nights. Jill is an advertising and promotions exec with The Body Shop and she swears by yoga to keep her beautiful figure”.

Then you just dabble a bit here and there to keep their mutual interests alive, and move on to introduce more people among each other.

What if you’re stuck in a conversation that is as dull as dishwater, or with someone that’s rude, or annoying and obnoxious and you’re absolutely dying to get out of it? Try a subtle way of releasing yourself from the torture, but do so in all gracefulness. Say that you really need to use the ladies (even if you don’t, just go in there and powder your nose or touch up your lipstick) and when you come out, make sure you head in the opposite direction of the disastrous talker and engage yourself quickly in a conversation with someone else. Otherwise you can make excuses that you haven’t eaten, or you need a drink, or you saw someone you know across the room, then cut and run for your life!

Whatever you do this holiday season, always drink responsibly and remember that parties are to go meet people and have fun, so do enjoy yourself. If you go with an open heart and an eye for entertainment, you will be sure to have fun.

Facebook. The New Pickup Line of The Century.

“Do you have facebook?”

A simple question that can be asked by girls and guys to people whom they’ve just met. Not as in-your-face as asking for your number or name card, but subtle enough to let them know that you want to keep in touch with one another.

And, on the other end, when he/she asks you for your facebook account, you’re more inclined to tell it to them more often rather than not.

But…when they add you, and you see their name pop up on your Friends Request, you can browse through their page to see their interests, favourite movies, yada yada yada, and then decide if they’re a freak or not and if you really want to approve their friend request.

Then you can see if they’re single, what have they been up to? More yada yada yada. Invasion of privacy at a new level? Maybe. But, instead of telling what do you like in person to them, they might go, “Oh ya I know, I read it on your facebook!”. Anyone who actually takes notice as such to your facebook profile is definitely interested in you.

A subtle poke can maybe even lead to dinner.

But for the love of God, please do not going around adding people that you do not know (or what I call “collecting” friends) just to show that you know a lot of people, and have an unbelievably high friend count (what? so it shows that you’re more popular then you actually are?).

My friends and I have another pet peeve. Those profile that has so many applications on it that practically makes your browser hang when you try to open their profile (no life ah?). Again, it doesn’t show how popular you are. A few tasteful applications reflects a lot on your personality. Applications are also a chance to show your interests and have some fun, not exactly to flood the page with pictures of gifts that you recently received. Again, this is all IMHO.

But then again, the beauty of community driven websites as such will continue it’s surge and become part of our daily lives. And yes, don’t hesitate to initiate the facebook question if you have a fancy towards someone. Then you can always keep in touch that way.

Cheers, Lynn

Babes, do you know your clubbing rights?

posted by:

High time to put some life back into this blog. Veering away from the typical posts on fashion and cosmetics, let’s talk about clubbing instead. And also the perils of clubbing.

As usual, we have the molesters, thieves, gropers, drunkards, druggies and more. But as girls, what do we hate the most? Getting groped and molested, yes.

A friend of mine who owns a few clubs in KL once told me, that it is a pity that most girls get molested and just keep quiet about it. “Tell us”, he said. “So that we can beat the living daylight out of the pervert!”

Seriously, it is your right that you can alert the bouncers that the particular guy groped you, and they will take action against him, and you, my dear girl, can take out your popcorn and watch the show of what he has brought upon himself.

You may ask, “Sure boh?”

And I can assure you that it is real. Would you like to go to a club that’s known for their patrons who will “eat your tofu”? No, and neither do most girls. Hence, if you own the club, would you want to make sure that such a tag does not get stuck to your club?

Know your rights hunnies. Know that it is your right to alert the bouncers that you have just been molested and that they should kick the pervert out.

Don’t worry, everyone will be on *your* side :)

Cheers, Lynn
